Man O' War Puro Authentico Cigar Review | Whiskey Gambler
Man O' War Puro Authentico
AJ Fernandez built his entire reputation on this blend. Word is he smokes one every single day. After spending some serious time with the Puro Authentico, I completely understand why.
The Puro Authentico comes out of the box with a presence. An oily, reddish-brown Nicaraguan Habano wrapper with a natural tooth, a closed foot, and a signature pigtail cap — this cigar looks like it means business before you ever light it. AJ Fernandez packed it top to bottom with Nicaraguan ligero — the highest-priming, most powerful leaf on the plant — and the result is a corona that smokes like a cigar twice its size.
What makes this one special is the construction. Fernandez dialed in something near-perfect here — the closed foot means your first puffs are pure wrapper, which delivers an immediate burst of flavor that most cigars spend their first third building toward. By the time you're into the meat of the smoke the complexity is already in full swing. This is the cigar AJ reaches for at the end of his own day. That fact alone tells you everything.

First Third
The closed foot lights up with an immediate blast of white pepper and spice — bold and assertive right out of the gate. Behind the pepper you get oak, leather, and a rich dark tobacco backbone that anchors everything. Construction is flawless: razor-sharp burn line, generous smoke output, and a draw that's firm but absolutely perfect. This cigar does not ease you in.
|
Second Third
The pepper settles and the real complexity shows up. Campfire, cedar, and dark coffee take center stage. A nutty sweetness threads underneath — allspice and a touch of cocoa balance the leather and wood that have been building since the first light. Body is firmly medium to full and climbing. The smoke output stays generous. Every puff rewards you with something new.
|
Final Third
Cedar becomes the dominant voice in the final third with leather and espresso close behind. A faint saltiness shows up in the last inch — unexpected and memorable. The spice never fully disappears, keeping the finish bold and satisfying all the way to the nub. Burn stays straight without a single touch-up required. Hard to put down. Even harder to stop thinking about after.
