Cigar Review — Whiskey Gambler

5 Vegas Gold

Connecticut Shade  ·  Honduras  ·  Mild to Medium

Sometimes the most dangerous cigar is the one that goes down easy. The 5 Vegas Gold has been quietly converting new smokers and holding down humidors for years. I finally gave it the proper sit-down it deserves.

First Impressions

There's a reason the 5 Vegas Gold outsells cigars with three times the reputation and twice the price tag. Pull one out of the box and you already know what you're dealing with — a seamless Ecuador Connecticut shade wrapper that practically shimmers under the light, wrapped around five-year-aged long fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. This isn't a cigar trying to be flashy. It just is what it is, and what it is happens to be very, very good.

Built by Nestor Plasencia — one of the most respected names in the game — the Gold has been the quiet backbone of CI's lineup for years. It's the cigar you reach for when you want something dependable, refined, and completely without ego. Slipped it into the rotation on a slow evening with a glass of wheated bourbon and let it do its thing.

Tasting Notes
First Third
Toasty cold draw right out of the gate — slight nuttiness up front, a gentle cedar backbone. The wrapper gives you a buttery, creamy texture that coats the palate immediately. Subtle white pepper flick on the back end. Easy burn, perfect draw. This cigar wants to relax with you.
Second Third
Where the Gold earns its name. Rich notes of toasted cashew and light coffee start to emerge. The creaminess deepens without ever getting heavy. There's a faint sweetness — vanilla and hay — threading through everything. Strength stays right in the mild-to-medium lane, never pushes past its welcome.
Final Third
Finishes exactly the way it started — clean. The coffee note intensifies slightly, cedar comes back around, and a touch of caramel lingers on the finish. The white ash holds impressively straight the entire length. No bitterness, no harshness. Burns down to the nub without complaint.

The Verdict
The 5 Vegas Gold isn't trying to compete with the big boys. It doesn't need to. This is the cigar you reach for when you want a perfect smoke that never makes a wrong move — smooth from start to finish, priced right, built by one of the best in the business. It's the kind of everyday smoke that earns a permanent spot in any serious humidor. Keep a box within arm's reach at all times.
